Six people arrested for gambling in Wangdue
A total of six people were arrested by police after they were found gambling in a house in Bajothang town in WangduePhodrang a few weeks back.
The owner of the house was also arrested for organizing the gambling in her house. Of the six persons, three were female while the other three were male.
One of the gamblers, who was arrested last year, by the police for his involvement in gambling, had informed the police about the ongoing gambling sessions in the house of the 45-year old woman.
When the police reached the scene, they caught the gamblers red-handed and they were arrested from the spot. Police recovered a total of Nu 28,796 and cards.
They were playing marriage (name of the game) at the stake of Nu 2.
However, all the suspects have been released on bail while the case is still going on.
The arrested gamblers included a businessmen, guide, driver and housewives.
The owner of the house in whose house the gambling was organized is settled in Wangdue though she is originally from Bumthang.
This is the first case of gambling case reported within the region of WangduePhodrang Dzongkhag.
The officer in-charge of Wangdue police station said that the gambling has drastically decreased these days.
According to the Penal Code of Bhutan, the offence of gambling is a petty misdemeanor.
