Six people arrested for gambling in Wangdue

A total of six people were arrested by police after they were found gambling in a house in Bajothang town in WangduePhodrang a few weeks back.

The owner of the house was also arrested for organizing the gambling in her house. Of the six persons, three were female while the other three were male.

One of the gamblers, who was arrested last year, by the police for his involvement in gambling, had informed the police about the ongoing gambling sessions in the house of the 45-year old woman.

When the police reached the scene, they caught the gamblers red-handed and they were arrested from the spot. Police recovered a total of Nu 28,796 and cards.

They were playing marriage (name of the game) at the stake of Nu 2.

However, all the suspects have been released on bail while the case is still going on.

The arrested gamblers included a businessmen, guide, driver and housewives.

The owner of the house in whose house the gambling was organized is settled in Wangdue though she is originally from Bumthang.

This is the first case of gambling case reported within the region of WangduePhodrang Dzongkhag.

The officer in-charge of Wangdue police station said that the gambling has drastically decreased these days.

According to the Penal Code of Bhutan, the offence of gambling is a petty misdemeanor.

    Haha, our cops can’t catch thieves, but will arrest people gambling, that too at 2 nu stake, this is absolutely ridiculous.

    Why are law makers, law implementer and those who are influencing the law making acting like Talibans. The fact that people are treated in the country through restrictions and bans indicate the Taliban-style management of society in the country.
    Those who wants to act and practice Taliban culture should go to the taliban land, not in Bhutan, to practice their absurd culture.
    I am certainly sick of this things happening in our country. Efforts of people of Bhutan (way we do, way we think, way we dream, way we relate)should be all about how to develop our people, country so that we are proud of ourselves. But certainly not being stupidly proud living in poverty, being underdeveloped, experiencing substandard, restrictions and bans; what have you!
    Please, allow people to dream to create an intelligent bhutan and not stupid Bhutan.
