Queens Cup basket ball tournament underway

he Queens Cup basket ball tournament which started on 11 October is dedicated to 3rd anniversary of the Royal Wedding of the Fifth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck.

There are 22 teams participating from Thimphu and out of 22 teams three women teams are taking part in the tournament.

Every day three matches are conducted and as of yesterday 18 matches have been played. The entry fee for men’s team is Nu 6000 and Nu 5000 for women team.

Manager of the Clover Events and Entertainment, Karma Phuntsho said it is good sport as it keeps people fit and keeps the spirit of sports. One of the challenges organizer face is with regards to shortage of funds as there are less number of teams participating in games like basket ball.

Queen’s Cup started in 2011 coinciding with the Royal Wedding of the Fifth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck but it was stop for two years. This year the tournament was resarted from October 11, 2014.

The Queens Cup Basketball tournament will end on October 25 2014. The winner of the men’s trophy will take Nu 30,000 and runner up will take Nu. 20,000 along with certificates whereas winners of the women team will take away Nu.10, 000 and runners up will take away Nu.5000.

RSA Private Limited, hotel Norbuling and Clover Events and Entertainment is organzing the tournament.
